MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL (June 11, 2008) - Fourteen veterinary students participated in a full-day seminar on dairy animal welfare programs at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine on June 10. “The topic of production animal welfare is currently a widely debated issue, and it is important for our veterinary students to understand and appreciate the many aspects involved,” said Dr. Paul Rapnicki, clinical professor in dairy production medicine at the University of Minnesota. Students participated in lectures and activities utilizing the American Humane Certified Standards Guidelines for Dairy Cattle to engage in a discussion about how such a certification process might involve them and affect their future clients. Support for the seminar was provided by Intervet/Schering Plough Animal Health and American Humane. |
