American Humane Certified™ Farm Program is Good for Animals and Good for People

The American Humane Association’s farm-animal welfare program, American Humane Certified, will participate in the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s annual “Cooking for Solutions”, in partnership with event sponsor Clover Stornetta, to present the benefits of humanely raised food choices to the industry’s leading celebrity chefs and culinary experts.

The American Humane Certified label assures that protein products are from animals that were treated and raised humanely.  A proprietary study by Public Opinion Strategies found that of all types of food labels, the humane label was ranked most important by customers.  Another study found that nearly 60 percent of the American public now equate food safety to animal welfare.  These findings, supported by other conscientious-based consumer trends, indicate that there is growing consumer interest towards humanely raised food choices.

”We see increasing support for animal welfare by consumers in the food choices and purchases they make,” said Marcus Benedetti, president of Clover Stornetta.  “The American Humane Certified label confirms our dedication to animal welfare, as well as our understanding of the connection between animal welfare and higher quality products.”

American Humane Certified is America’s first and original animal welfare program dedicated to the welfare and humane treatment of farm animals.  More than 50 million farm animals have been certified by American Humane’s science-based farm animal welfare program showing that the farmers provide adequate space to exercise, are free of antibiotics and growth hormones and have a demonstrated commitment to best practices in farm animal welfare.  American Humane Certified hopes to encourage chefs and culinary experts who utilize America’s meat, poultry, and dairy and egg protein products to consider animal welfare and support American Humane Certified products.

American Humane Certified standards are focused on ensuring animal safety, health and comfort.  A benefit of humane treatment of animals is high quality, better tasting products.  Independent taste tests conducted by American Humane Certified producers have shown that animals that live stress free lives, are preferred by tasters.

American Humane Certified works closely with its independent Scientific Advisor Committee, industry professionals, and producers to ensure that industry advancements and best practices are part of American Humane certification standards. Based on its 131 year legacy of being the gold standard of humane behavior, consumers trust and rely on the American Humane Certified label.

All attendees of  ”Cooking for Solutions” are invited to attend Friday morning’s event breakfast where Clover Stornetta will present; and to visit Clover Stornetta’s exhibit on Saturday to learn about the  certification process and how American Humane Certified is not only good for animals, but good for people too.  Marie Belew Wheatley, American Humane Association President and CEO, and Timothy Amlaw, American Humane Certified Program Director, will be available for media interviews.  To arrange an interview, contact Tiffiany Moehring at 303-304-8789.

The “Cooking for Solutions” event takes place May 16-17 at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey, California. For more information on American Humane Certified please go to www.americanhumane.org/certified.
